Sue Brady - Clubhouse Manager

Sue came to Surrey Downs in April 2010 with 24 years experience in food and beverage management ranging from time with outside caterers, Leiths, catering for Prime Ministers and the Royal Family, via Addington Palace and the Addington Golf Club to the role of House Manager at Cherry Lodge Golf Club.  Now her emphasis is on trying to make sure that the Members are looked after properly and that our events go off smoothly.

She shares her life with husband of 28 years, John, son Liam and the 500 Teddy Bears in her collection.  She is also renowned for her exploits in Bluewater (or any other shopping area for that matter) where she must be on first name terms with all the staff.

Zoe Brown - Events Manager

Zoe joined Surrey Downs back in the summer of 2007 after completing a Degree in Fashion at the University College for the Creative Arts.  Since then she has established herself as an integral part of the management team taking on responsibility for the whole events business including dealing with the member’s matches and social events.  She is also responsible for most of what ends up on the website (which probably means that this has been edited to sound really impressive!).

Most of our members know that her main hobby when not working is cake baking and decorating as many of us have tried out her creations at one time or another and having seen her in action I can tell you that the attention to painstaking detail is second to none.

Jon Favell - Golf Operations Manager

After 20 years in the Information Management/IT Marketing world Jon pursued a career change in 2010 and joined Surrey Downs in July that year.  Golf has been a significant part of his life since he was 11 years old and he has a passion for everything about the game and holds down a handicap of 4 without ever having had a lesson.  His work focus is now on providing the highest level of service possible for Members and visitors to Surrey Downs, something that he has done very well over the last 12 months.

Jon is married to Veronica, an Argentinian, whom he met in San Diego in 1993.  After 9 years apart they hooked up again in Buenos Aires, just as England were beating Argentina in the 2002 World Cup.  Veronica eventually got over that disappointment and they now have two children, Ignacio and Victoria.

Juliet Hiley - Club Administrator

Juliet is the main link back to our Head Office as she deals with all the paperwork that has to pass between the two – that’s all personnel matters, invoicing and payments, banking and, of course, all the membership administration.  She is one of our longest serving members of staff having originally joined in the days pre-clubhouse as a receptionist and now works Monday to Friday in the office and is your main contact if you have any issues with your membership, direct debits or levy card.

Her dream job would be dealing with animals, all soft, furry and cuddly – a bit like the members at Surrey Downs really!

Tony Kyle - Course Manager

Tony is our longest serving member of staff joining here in 2002, shortly before the course opened, after spells at Laleham Golf Club, The Grove and Stockley Park.  In those roles he developed a great working knowledge of all areas of course management and worked with some of the most respected industry professionals and also with the European Tour Courses Group preparing courses for tour events.

Originally from Durban, South Africa Tony moved to the UK in 1980 with his family and developed an interest in things horticultural at an early age.  This interest has not, however, necessarily translated into golfing ability as he still claims a handicap of 24 much to the disbelief of some of his industry colleagues, especially his brother Gavin, who is also a Course Manager, at Knole Park in Kent.

Peter Townson - Operations Director

Peter joined Surrey Downs in January 2010 with 25 years of experience in club management of which the last 15 have been specifically in golf clubs.  Having initially worked in golf for the Marriott Country Club group he has spent much of the last ten years on the road working with owners to manage clubs that they owned and also with banks and receivers to turn round clubs in difficulty and then sell them on when appropriate.  He’s looking forward to the relative calm of single site management and a regular commute, even on the M25, as compared to the slightly manic life he had running round the south of England.

A handy golfer, with a best handicap of 10.6, Peter’s first sporting love was cricket and as old habits die hard you will see him occasionally play a superb cover drive off the tee, straight right and invariably into trouble.  Perhaps that’s why Alison, his wife and a 14 handicapper herself, normally wins the games they play together!
